Passed away on Monday, December 17, 2010. His 30 year distinguished Naval career concluded in 1989 after his final tour as Commander, Destroyer Squadron 2, Norfolk, VA. Following retirement he was employed by Booz-Allen, then served as National Executive Director of AMVETS. He was an alumnus of Colby College and the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. A resident of Springfield, he coached football for the SYC and baseball for the WSLL. He is survived by his wife Martha Woodbury of Springfield, VA, son and daughter-in-law, David, Jr. and Leigh Ann of Alexandria, VA, son Scott of Seattle, WA, and son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Anne of Falls Church, VA. He was a beloved grandpa to Anna Merritt, Connor, David, III, and Tyler. Memorial Service will be held on February 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Messiah United Methodist Church, 6215 Rolling Road, Springfield, VA 22152. Burial with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. on February 28, 2011 at Arlington National Cemetery.
