Richard F. Steele LANTANA, Fla. - Richard F. "Dick" Steele, 72, of Lantana, Fla. and Gilford, N.H., formerly of Stoneham and Windham, N.H. died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Laconia, N.H. Born in Brookline on Aug. 10, 1936 he was the son of the late Richard F. and Constance (Eaton) Steele Stewart. Dick was a graduated of Stoneham High School, Class of 1954 and was a star football player while there and served as Captain of the team as well as Captain of the basketball and baseball teams. Following High School he attended Brown University in Rhode Island and later graduated from Fitchburg State College, in Fitchburg. He was employed at Ratheon and retired after 34 years with tours in Andover and Bedford, El Paso, Texas, Frankfort, Germany and LaLinea, Spain. Dick was an avid golfer and worked at many PGA Tournaments. He coached men's basketball at all levels through college and was a coach at good old Stoneham High School for two years. He also coached in Windham and Northern Essex Community College. Finally, Dick dedicated 30+ years to the Boys Scouts of America as a Scout Leader. Two of his sons, Bryan and Dick Jr. are Eagle Scouts and John is a Life Scout. Dick was an avid letter writer. He wrote to town and politicians about many issues he felt needed improvements. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa (Fallavollita) Steele; three sons, Richard F. Steele Jr., his wife Michelle, and their daughter (only grandchild) Samantha V. Rose Steele of Windsor, Conn., John A. Steele, his wife Paula and her two children Gabriel and Peter Nevrette of Dixfield, Maine and Bryan D. Steele of Nashua, N.H. Additionally, two sisters, Suzanne Federer and her husband Anthony of New Hampshire and Gretchen Cuthbert and her husband Arthur of Georgia. Also family survivors include Joan and Domenic Galuna and Albert and Rita Fallavollita all of Florida. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham. |
