Browsing recently through my collection of SHS graduation pictures, I was struck, first, by how young
we looked, and, second, by how young we were. Most of the comments we wrote to our classmates concluded
with "Never forget" or "Always remember," and, at that point, when the high school experience we shared
was the highlight of our lives, we truly believed we would never forget.
But life intervenes--careers, college, relationships, marriage, divorce, children, homes, home improvement, hobbies, grandchildren, retirement--and high school fades far into the background. We have known sadness and, because of that, can appreciate joy. We have been foolish, and, from those moments, have grown wise. We have 50 years of experiences now, many of them worth highlighting. Nevertheless, our shared high school experience is not unimportant. It deserves celebration. It would be wonderful to gather as many classmates as possible, after 50 years, to celebrate our unique bond as members of the Class of 1954. With that in mind, Mary Lou, Ed, Dick, Bill, and I are planning our 50th class reunion. It will be at the Bear Hill Golf Club on October 9, 2004. We hope to see you there. We'd love to hear from you. --Bette |
