Albert J. Duff Jr., a Stoneham police officer and the town's safety officer, died of cancer Sunday at his home in Stoneham. He was 56.
Mr. Duff had been a Stoneham police officer for 34 years. He held a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University and a master's degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria College. He was born in Stoneham and educated in public schools there. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1957, including a stint in Korea. Mr. Duff joined the Stoneham Police Department in 1958. In 1974 he became the town's safety officer, and was known as Officer Duff to countless Stoneham children. Officer Duff is survived by his wife and 2 children.
