Murray McCharles of Reading died at hoome on July 8, 1999 after a short illness.
Murray was born in Boston, the son of the late Robert and Ingrid (Voland) McCharles. His family moved to Stoneham when he was eight. He was a 1954 graduate of Stoneham High School and served in the Army toward the end of the Korean War. He played trumpet for the bands of Stan Kenton and Maynard Fergason. He retired in 1997 from Daniels LeSarve Motors in Melrose where he had worked as Service Manager. His hobbies included woodworking and boating on Lake Winnipsaukee from his cottage on Rattlesnake Island. He was the long time companion of Jackie Ellis of Reading and her daughters, Karen Spezzaferro of Georgetown and Kristine Ellis of Reading, and brother of Alan Westfall and Carolyn Speer, both of Wisconsin.
