Bette: The Trip

London Greece Dining Enroute Hanging Out Home

High School

While visiting relatives about 4 or 5 subway stops outside of Athens, we took a walk and came upon a high school. It was late afternoon, school was not in session, the doors were open, so we went inside. We were shocked by what we saw. Every classroom, in varying degrees, was littered with graffiti, much of it in English, though students in Greece study French as their second language. The bathrooms were much worse. Later, we went back to the school with Pappou and a cousin, and he introduced us to the principal. We remarked on the graffiti. The friendly principal shrugged and replied, "Kids. The same all over, yes?"
